Qatar Is Hosting

The 2022 World Cup is being held in Qatar, a small but affluent Middle Eastern country bordering the Persian Gulf. Qatar is the first country in the Middle East to host the World Cup and the first Arab nation to do so.

The World Cup Is Currently Underway

The tournament takes place from November 21 to December 18, 2022 — and there’s still time to get in on the excitement and action by picking a team to root for. This is the first time that the World Cup has been held in the wintertime, due to the extreme summer temperatures in Qatar.

Which Teams Are Competing?

At the start of the tournament, 32 teams will compete, with each team playing three group stage matches. The top two teams in each group will qualify for the knockout stage. Currently, top contenders include Brazil, France, Argentina, England, Spain, Germany, Belgium, Portugal, Netherlands, Uruguay, and Denmark.

Venues

Eight stadiums in Qatar will host the tournament, all of which are currently under construction. The stadiums are built in a fan-friendly design, allowing for better sight lines and more comfortable seating. The stadiums will also feature modern cooling technologies to combat the desert heat.
