This was the 37th outdoor game the NHL has staged since 2003 but only the first involving the Hurricanes and the first in the state of North Carolina. Game day delivered perfect weather and an electric atmosphere complete with tailgate parties, NC State mascots, cheerleaders, and marching band, plus live music. To end the perfect day, the Canes delivered a 4-1 victory to a sellout crowd of 56,961, the largest in Hurricanes history.
