This panorama of the first-ever NHL Centennial Classic commemorates the 100th anniversary of both the NHL® and the Toronto Maple Leafs® as they faced-off against Original Six™ rival Detroit Red Wings®, in Toronto's first outdoor NHL game. This outdoor event, held on New Year's Day, continues the League tradition of hosting a regular-season outdoor game at the onset of the new year to celebrate the origin and history of hockey. The NHL Centennial Classic launched year-long celebrations, featuring a variety of ceremonies, recognitions, observances and special events highlighting 100 years of NHL hockey and milestone anniversaries for member clubs.
