West Virginia Mountaineers Basketball - WVU Coliseum
This panorama, taken by Christopher Gjevre, captures the ensuing jubilation, as the West Virginia Mountaineers made a game-winning layup in the final four seconds of the game to defeat the Kansas Jayhawks® and end the night in victory. After the Jayhawks threw a full-court pass and missed a shot at the buzzer, West Virginia fans poured out onto the court for a robust rendition of "Take Me Home, Country Roads" to celebrate the win. The Mountaineers scored 17 points off turnovers and had 22 offensive rebounds that led to 15 second-chance points in the victory. This ESPN nationally televised game played at the WVU Coliseum, marked the second consecutive time the Mountaineers beat the Jayhawks in Morgantown.
One of the most recognizable traditions of WVU sports is the singing of John Denver's "Take Me Home, Country Roads.” After every Mountaineer victory, the fans stay in the stands and sing along with the sports team.
